Sunday the 25th January 2015 saw the long awaited start to the construction of the new Special Needs School here on the island. A colourful ceremony at which the Mayor,Khun Ramnate along with land donor Khun Ngoen Wichaidist and other dignitaries addressed the many guests and supporters began at 2pm and concluded with the pouring of the first concrete foundation stone. These events being blessed by Pra Mongkol Theepacharn, Abbot of Wat Jarn.
Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Coco Splash in Lamai, M. D. Melanie Thieuland provided the children from the Special Needs School with the day out of a lifetime.
Arriving at Coco Splash they could only look and wonder at the wide array of different pools and water slides around them, all painted in a wide array of different colours, their little eyes near popping out of their heads!
Whilst some of the children did not hesitate to change into their costumes and jump in, others were somewhat apprehensive, never having seen anything like this in their lives before. However in a short time everyone was enjoying themselves amongst the many different facilities available.(see photos below)
After having their lunch, kindly provided to them along with their transport by the management and staff of The Silavadee Resort (Lamai) the plan was to return to Bangrak. However the children had other ideas and were soon back in the water!
Eventually they were driven back to the school, both happy and exhausted, no doubt to enjoy some wonderful memories.
A big thank you to all the volunteer helpers who kindly gave their time.
Following the Samui Midnight Run held in Chaweng on the 30th March, which was a great success and the following centenary events surrounding Bangkok Airways celebrations The Thai Hotels Association – Southern Chapter East Coast gathered at Rockys Resort in Lamai to present the Samui Learning Center for Special Needs with a cheque for the amazing sum of THB104,000.00.
This was received on behalf of the school by its founder Khun Darlin and Khun Mattanee and presented by the G.M’s of the THA.
Below are photographs of the event and presentation of the donation.
The date is set for the very first charity Midnight Run organised by the Thai Hotel Associaton (THA) and the Thai Association of Koh Samui (TAKS) on the island of Koh Samui.
The run will take place on Saturday 30th March 2013 at Chaweng Beach. Participants will run 5km or 10km around the buzzy and lively streets of Chaweng Beach. The organisers are expecting between 1000 and 2000 participants for his very first race and hope to see the charity run become on of the most popular events on the island!
Proceeds from the event will be donated to some very worthy causes: firstly to Koh Special Needs School Samui and secondly to the Green Project supported by the Hotel Associations.
